PADC offers the children and teenagers in the slum areas recreational and educational activities always putting emphasise on the importance that the children will have something that they can gain from and not spend their free time on their streets where drugs, violence and crime are part of everyday life.
In addition to the weekly activities we also organize camps and parties for the children four times a year. For the entire communities we arrange lectures on different themes such as healthcare, sexuality, children’s rights, the rights and obligations of citizens etc.
Our main goal is to offer the children a chance to act and be children and also to offer them the means to express themselves. We hope that through the activities we arrange and the attention and role models that our volunteers serve as will help the children to get the motivation to strive forward in their lives and to improve their usually low self-esteem. All our lessons are based on creativity and flexibility, but we also find it very important to set limits and practice tolerance and democracy. PADC’s strongest tools are trustworthiness and continuous work.
PADC’s long-term goal is to fill the children’s and teenagers’ spare time with recreational activities and then minimize the risks to fall into criminal occupation, to improve their abilities to study and to help them get better chances to find work in the future.
Most of PADC’s activities are held in Morro da Vitória which is our main target to help. PADC also helps the residential association of Morro da Vitória financially by helping with the cleaning costs of the community house. In the future our aim is also to help with the electric costs.
